Is it legal for someone with out a cosmetology licence to do hair extensions?

I had the loc type hair extensions done by Gianna Miceli in Long Island NY and she destroyed my hair. Her product (the hair) was very poor quality, she was overpriced and is not certified by the hair loc system she uses. After having them removed by a professional I was told that she had done the most terrible job she had ever seen. They were placed on top of my head where they are never to be placed causing bald patches and major loss of hair. Most of them were placed in backwards causing twisting of my root in the opposite direction of my natural hair growth. Please help, I need to know how I go about getting my money back even if that means taking her to court.

it depends on the state. license or no license, if they don't what they are doing, they will screw it up.

even without license, you can turn them in to the cosmetology board in your state. believe me, i doubt you are the first to get screwed.

As the hair extension service becomes more and more popular, you will find many more stylists that go to training and education classes to become certified in hair extension services. The stylist does not necessarily need to be certified, but it is very important that they have been trained and educated properly in hair extensions. Hair extensions are a big investment, financially and emotionally. If the stylist you select does not have proper training, many things can go wrong, including some of your natural hair falling out or even being ruined. Make sure you do your homework in selecting a stylist. Ask to see before/after photos, get references, check if any complaints have been filed against a stylist, etc. All hair extensions have the potential to cause damage to your hair. The experience of the hair stylist is the biggest factor in positive results.
